Best Madhur Bhandarkar Movies

Madhur Bhandarkar made his directorial debut with Trishakti and went on to direct several critically and commercially successful films. He has received National Film Awards for his work on Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Traffic Signal.

He also won the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award from the Government of India. His films were also screened in the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival.

Chandni Bar

Chandni Bar is an eye-opening look into Mumbai's underworld. Featuring Tabu and Atul Kulkarni, the film won four National awards including Best Actress for Tabu.

Mumtaz (Tabu), a naive rural girl from a village where communal riots raged, comes to Mumbai with her uncle after both her parents are killed. She is immediately persuaded to take up dancing as a means of making money for her family.

She finds the world of adult bars (also called 'dance bars') in Mumbai depressing and intimidating, but she is forced to dance despite her reluctance. Her uncle emotionally blackmails her when she refuses to work.

Chandni Bar is a film that tackles some serious social issues with utmost sensitivity. It is a must-watch for those who appreciate good, realistic cinema.

Page 3

Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3 is a realistic look at the world of tabloid journalism, gossip and celebrities. It follows the life of journalist Madhavi (Konkona Sen Sharma), whose job as a Page 3 reporter for a leading newspaper is not without its challenges.

She reports to editor Deepak Suri (Boman Irani), who is a tough taskmaster, balancing truth against his boss’s demands for publicity. The film also takes us through several important issues like disturbed families, depression due to cheating spouses, wife-swapping, drug peddling, child prostitution and casting couches.

Konkona brings a strong sense of ground reality to her role as Madhavi and manages to carry the story with an innate dignity. Her performance is matched only by her character’s integrity and she proves to be the film’s moral voice.

Traffic Signal

Traffic signals are used in intersections, crosswalks, and other places where vehicles and pedestrians cross. They prevent accidents and collisions by alerting drivers of potential risk areas.

They also help reduce fuel use, reduce speeding to make the light, and save lives by limiting traffic crashes. Generally, these signals are meant to be installed in urban centers and neighborhoods.

Adaptive traffic signal systems should be designed with multi-modal priorities in mind. This is because they will need to be modified as goals and objectives change over time.

One of the primary reasons for installation of traffic signals is to reduce delays that result from high volumes of conflicting approaches on main streets and side streets over extended periods of time. These delays can be reduced by providing breaks in major roadway traffic for crossing movements.

Fashion

Director Madhur Bhandarkar has a knack for presenting socially relevant issues, eliciting excellent performances and mixing glamour with just enough realism. From Chandni Bar to Page 3 and Corporate, his films are a resonant blend of reality and glamour that appeals to the masses.

In Fashion, he takes the glitz of Indian fashion and turns it into an allegory for the seamy side of life in the ramp world. The story of a small town girl who reaches Mumbai and becomes a supermodel — played by Priyanka Chopra — is set against the backdrop of an industry that is notorious for drugs, promiscuity, power play and homosexuality.

While the film is a sensational potboiler with several audacious stereotypes, it is not without its flaws. On a few occasions, the director compromises authenticity for the sake of exaggerated drama.

Heroine

Heroine, the latest offering from Madhur Bhandarkar is another peek into the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. It tries to give you an inside scoop on how the leading ladies deal with their personal and professional flaws, abuses and addiction.

The film features Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda in pivotal roles. It tells the story of a young woman who becomes a bar dancer to make ends meet and ends up getting involved with a gangster.

In fact, it is the most critically acclaimed movie from Madhur Bhandarkar. The film depicts the dark side of Mumbai's underworld. It includes prostitution, dance bars and gun crime.
